Feldenkrais classes are called Awareness Through Movement lessons. During the course of a lesson you reconnect with your natural ability to move, think, and feel.
Students attend to themselves as they do a series of slow, gentle movements. You might call this approach a form of mindful movement. A movement meditation organized based on how your nervous system learns.
Students learn to move in a more agreeable fashion: towards more ease, comfort, simplicity, smoothness, and pleasure. And by going slowly and staying in an easy-enough range, it is easier to attend to what you sense and feel.
This moving and attending creates a neural-feedback which allows your nervous system to let go of unnecessary muscle tension and upgrade how you move. The process allows a very whole experience (engaging, educative, mobilizing, calming).
Each lesson has a theme that builds over the course of an hour from one movement exploration to the next. Most lessons are done on the floor, which allows your nervous system to release muscles that you routinely use to balance yourself in an upright position. Lessons work with your whole body, seeking to differentiate the parts of yourself and integrate those parts into a more cohesive whole. Each session is different.

“My new desk job was causing pain in my hand, forearm, neck, and back. I wasn’t sure if Feldenkrais would work for me because I have trouble focusing when I meditate or do yoga.
After my first session with Andrew, I was pleased to learn that maintaining focus wasn’t an issue. Each class grounds me in the present moment and the effects tend to linger with me throughout the day.
My sense of resilience has increased, and I’m learning what works best for my body in every given moment.”
